10 Ways to Cut Your Heating Bills This Winter

Free changes that make a real difference
You can do all of these today for nothing:
- Turn your combi boiler flow temperature down to around 55–60°C — modern boilers run more efficiently and you barely notice the difference

- Set your thermostat to the lowest comfortable temperature — every degree lower saves roughly a few percent on your heating
- Use your heating timer so you are only heating the house when someone is in

Does turning the boiler flow temperature down really save money?
Yes. Combi boilers are more efficient when the return water is cooler, which happens at lower flow temperatures. Around 55–60°C is a good balance of comfort and efficiency for most homes.
Is it cheaper to leave the heating on low all day?
